My last post was December 9th. I suppose I can no longer yell at another person for never updating. Well, here's the rundown of activities between December 9th and today:

1. Went to Maryland for Christmas
2. Spent my last week of Christmas break painting my landlady's kitchen cabinets (a job I hope never to do again...however, it paid for 2 1/2 months of rent)
3. Started my final semester of teaching as a Graduate Assistant
4. Went to IRELAND!!!!
5. Worked on planning a wedding
6. Still planning a wedding
7. Signed a contract to extend my Graduate Assistantship for one year while Jill finishes up her schooling.
8. Going to London in less than a month
9. Looking for an apartment that we can afford
10. YEARNING for this school year to end...
11. Can't wait to get married!

I know this posting is long overdue, but I went to my first ever Halloween costume party this year. I didn't have to go far...it was at my house. This year's theme: Harry Potter! and Hogwarts! Check it out...

The Hogwarts Sorting Hat

The feast prepared by the house elves...including Filch's Fingers, Cauldron Cakes, Chocolate Dipped Pretzel Wands, Troll Bogey Dip, Slytherin Snake Bites, butterbeer, and all sorts of potions to drink...

Our advertisement for Ollivander's wand shop...

To see more pictures, including pictures of Hogwarts characters in costumes, visit my facebook site and view the album!

Happy [Very] Early Birthday, Jill!

Well, I finally gave in. I bought Jill's birthday present about a month ago, even though her birthday is not until November 12th. I made the mistake (?) of telling her that her birthday present was in my basement and that she was not allowed to go down there....thinking that this would be funny. However, I was wrong. Neither she nor I could wait--her for the present, me for her reaction. So, last night, she got her birthday present early! She cried...I think that means that she was happy...that makes me happy...very.

Was it really August 31 that I posted last??? Thank you, Micah, for reminding me that I actually do have this blog set up... =)

Random thoughts on that which I love most about being a teacher:

...interaction with believing college students
...the encouragement of my peers
...reading
...being an influence, hopefully for the better
...seeing those "AHA!" moments in my students
...coupons to Borders (yeah, books!!!)

Random thoughts on that which I hate most about being a teacher:

...as soon as I finish grading a stack of papers, another one is waiting for me
...that after grading hundreds of papers, my motivation for personal reading drains to almost nothing
...that I cannot always communicate as effectively as I would like
...that some of my students have no desire to look at me as a human being
...my lack of experience limiting career possibilities

In an unexpecte twist of providence, I was approached two days ago by Dr. Harris and Dr. Kauffman here at BBC. For some reason, guys at this school are no longer auditioning for plays or music groups like that used to do, and the music department was in a somewhat desperate need for singers. One day later, I happily entered the literal circle of the Chamber Singers again. This will be my fourth full year as an official member, and I am very much looking forward to it (although I never was the oldest member of the group as I am now)...
As you may or may not know, this means that I have the incredible opportunity to go with the Chamber Singers on our missions trip to IRELAND over spring break. I am so excited to be able to go on this trip! I am applying for my passport today, and will be trying to raise about $1800 in the coming months. Please pray with me that I might be able to do that. If by any chance you are interested in helping to make this financial support possible, please let me know.
